ANACS Sponsors 3nd Annual SSDC Registry Awards
by John Roberts

In our continuing sponsorship of the Society of Silver Dollar Collectors Registry Awards, ANACS will once again recognize the dedication of those numismatists that have persevered to assemble sets that excel among their peers. The awards will be announced and presented at the SSDC’s annual event ‘VAM Thing’ held at the FUN convention on January 9th, 2015. To be considered, a set must be listed on the SSDC Registry and its owner must be a member in good standing. Employees of the sponsor are not eligible to complete. Sets will be evaluated much like the scoring used on the SSDC Registry itself, but with added emphasis placed on professionally certified and/or independently verified attributions to further ensure the accuracy of potential awardees. The sets will be judged as they appear in the registry on December 1st.

Awards will be presented in the following categories:

1. Best Complete Morgan VAM Set
2. Best Complete Peace VAM Set
3. Best Complete Morgan Top 100
4. Best Complete Morgan Hot 50
5. Best Complete Morgan Hit List 40
6. Best Complete Peace Top 50
7. Best Peace Elite 30
8. Best Standard Subset - the 8 TF and 79-S Rev of 78 are examples
9. Best Specialty Set
10. Best Individual Date Set
11. Impact Award – for the set with the greatest potential research value in the silver dollar variety field. For example, last year’s winner was not only an outstanding collection of Peace Dollars; it was also the basis of much of the research into the book The Elite 30 Peace Dollar VAMs.

The awards will be publicly recognized by the set name. If an owner has used their own name for their set, and does not wish to be identified, then the set name should be changed prior to December 1st. The set name should be suitable for publication. ANACS routinely advertises in major numismatic publications and has committed to publicizing the Registry Awards, and by natural extension, the SSDC itself. I invite you all to join me at FUN as we celebrate the excellence our colleagues have demonstrated in their collecting efforts.

ANACS Sponsors SSDC Registry Awards
by John Roberts

On behalf of ANACS, I am proud to announce our sponsorship of the Society of Silver Dollar Collectors Registry Awards. The newly created program will recognize the dedication of those numismatists that have persevered to assemble sets that excel among their peers. The inaugural awards will be announced and presented at the SSDC’s annual event ‘VAM Thing’ held at the FUN convention in January. To be considered, a set must be listed on the SSDC Registry and its owner must be a member of the SSDC in good standing. Employees of the sponsor are not eligible to complete. Sets will be evaluated much like the scoring used on the SSDC Registry itself, but with added emphasis placed on professionally certified and/or independently verified attributions to further ensure the accuracy of potential awardees. The sets will be judged as they appear on December 1st.
Awards will be presented in the following categories:

1)Best Complete Morgan VAM Set
2)Best Complete Peace VAM Set
3)Best Complete Morgan Top 100
4)Best Complete Morgan Hot 50
5)Best Complete Morgan Hit List 40
6)Best Complete Peace Top 50
7)Best Standard Set
8)Best Specialty Set
9)Best Individual Date Set
10)Impact Award – for the set with the greatest potential research value in the silver dollar variety field.

All the award categories are based on set categories in the registry. The Best Standard Set, Best Specialty Set, and Best Individual Date Set will be chosen across all such sets (excluding the Complete sets), so any given year, an outstanding 1878 8TF set will be judged against an outstanding 1921-S "Thornhead" set, a Clashed E set against a Denticle Impression set, and a 1904-O set against an 1878-S set. The Impact Award doesn't fit into a specific set category, but will awarded to a set that reflects a significant research effort or research potential. If it were eligible, the 1878-CC set I assembled when writing the guide for the date would be a solid contender for this award. I invite you all to join me at VAM Thing X at the January 2013 FUN show as we celebrate the excellence our colleagues have demonstrated in their collecting efforts. The SSDC Registry is found at this link. Participation in the registry is one of the benefits of membership in the SSDC. Any members who are not currently using the registry are encouraged to set up an account and register their coins. In addition to the set registry, archives of the VAM-e, VAMView Quarterly, and The View are available.
